Background
I designed a modern Expense Tracker platform to help users manage their daily spending effortlessly. Most existing trackers felt cluttered or overly complex, especially for students and young users who wanted something simple, clean, and fast. This project aimed to create a smoother way to log expenses, track trends, and maintain financial clarity.
Core problem
Users often felt overwhelmed by traditional budgeting apps, which required too many steps to record a simple expense. Lack of personalization, slow onboarding, and poor security discouraged consistent usage. Without an intuitive interface or meaningful analysis, users struggled to stay engaged or understand their spending behaviour.
The Approach for Extrac
The goal was to build a platform that made expense tracking feel effortless, secure, and insightful. I focused on a minimal design paired with intelligent features like biometric login, guided onboarding, and automated monthly summaries so users could quickly add expenses and instantly see how their financial habits evolved.
Steps Taken
Streamlined Onboarding: I created a guided onboarding flow that introduces new users to the app’s features in a clean and simple format. This reduces friction and helps users get started in seconds.
Biometric Authentication: To improve security and convenience, I implemented biometric verification. Users can access their tracker instantly without repeatedly entering passwords.
Intuitive Expense Input: Adding an expense now includes clear options to describe, categorise, and assign a date and amount—making the logging process structured yet fast. The interface ensures that users never feel overwhelmed.
Automated Monthly Analysis: A redesigned analytics section provides a monthly breakdown of spending trends. The visuals are easy to understand, highlighting categories, patterns, and areas where expenses spiked or improved.
